Newt jumped, again, because even when you knew it was going to happen where he'd end up was always a surprise. It was so fast, too! Your brain did not have time to catch up. He could see why an evil genius would want him.
Not that any of that mattered because wow okay Kurt gained some bravery over the past couple of days.
"What if they did? You don't know. I could be dangerous."
Not without a lab or equipment. No superpowers for this guy. Except his brain.
"I do not believe that." He bamfed again, this time with Newt, appearing by the couch this time and keeping a good hold on him in case he lost his balance. "I know dangerous people and you are far too kind to be so."
WHAT THE FUCK. Newt found himself gripping tight to whatever he could hold on Kurt. There wasn't much of a warning and his head was trying to make up for what the hell just happened. That wasn't nearly as unpleasant over a short distance. Still dizzying.
He gave a short, if shaky, laugh at that. "Uh... 'Kind' is not an adjective most people would use."
"Then most people are not taking a close enough look." Kurt released Newt with his arms, though his tail kept a helpful hold around his waist. "I would use it. I did." And that was that, Newt.
"You haven't known me very long," he pointed out with an actual point. He was mostly playing devil's advocate but also entirely right.
Sure, Newt didn't go out of his way to be an asshole. He knew he could be one by accident more often than anyone would like. But that didn't make him kind. He would absolutely keep money found on the street and ignore beggars unless he wanted to get rid of some change.
"I'm only nice to you because you're hot. And have cookies."
Now that was definitely a joke. Mostly. There was a good chunk of truth to it.
Kurt scoffed. "Clearly we have different definitions of nice." He finally let go of Newt with his tail, moving over to where he'd set the movies down for later. Holding them up, he waggled them at Newt. "Do you have a preference between the two?"
He laughed. "Well past these. I just... happen to really like pirate movies. And these are classics. How can you not like them?" Don't make him give you the sad puppy face, Newt. He would pull that so hard...
"We shall have to remedy that. But... would you prefer to watch something now and start dinner? Or dinner first? Or... I am not certain of if there is an acceptable order for a date."
"Hence usually. No, I'm not. And I'm kinda anxious to see if these movies are as bad as I think."
He grinned wide to show that he was just kidding. He would not withhold his opinion on them, sorry Kurt. He sat back and relaxed. One movie would be good, then dinner, then maybe another and he'd take advantage of his small attention span.
He smiled as he set down one movie and went to put the first one in. "I suppose the adventure of it. The high seas. The swordplay... the costumes." He pressed play and came over to sit on the couch, sitting rather close to Newt and letting his tail curl up in the other man's lap.
The tip flicked idly, sort of swaying in Newt's lap and occasionally touching a thigh. "Ah, true. Perhaps that is why I enjoy them so much. A little of home, only on a different setting. The open sea. Would you not like to swing from a mainsail and shiver some timbers?" He wasn't wearing his jacket, or his vest, just a button up shirt and colorful pants, adjusted so that his tail could leave it comfortably.
Newt dug the style. He looked like he grew up in a circus. Other than the blue and tail and everything.
"... How do you shiver timbers anyway?"
That was a weird saying and one he'd be rolling around in his head for a few days as a passing thought. The tail was intimate but comfortable and... Newt kinda liked it.
"I... am not entirely certain. I believe it is in reference to making someone shake so much, their skeleton is shivered?" What? It made sense to him that way. Sort of. But as the movie started, he leaned back a bit, uncertain of how much more he should do -- or what he was allowed.
Newt casually threw his arm around Kurt's shoulders once he was close enough. This wasn't usually how he went about with trying to sleep with people. Or date them for that matter. But, nothing was set in stone. He could deal with, and kind of preferred, this sort of bromance developing with romance.
"Sayings are weird."
He was mildly distracted. This was pretty good, considering the time.
"They are. It would likely make more sense if one was from that time, since it would be obvious for that era. Much like some popular sayings can seem strange when said in other eras." He felt the eat of Newt's arm over his shoulders and he smiled. He was smiling rather widely, actually, and he felt a little silly for it.
But his tail was quite happy to flex a little, shifting so that the tip started to creep around Newt's waist instead.
Newt was unfortunately oblivious to the cute. His thumb did draw little circles around Kurt's arm while they sat and watched. He even managed to stay mostly silent.
Unless something funny happened like bad graphics or editing. Black and whites had their strengths, sure. Pacing was usually better and the jokes somehow funnier but man did they have their downfalls.
A few moments later and Newt would be relaxing more into Kurt.
This was... nice. Not entirely what he'd expected, but then, he hadn't really been sure what to expect. The movie had him smiling, as did the little circles he could feel being traced on his arm by the man beside him. His tail had decided it was happy to tuck itself around Newt's waist and Kurt was happy to let it, enjoying the feel of him relaxing against him, feeling as if he was being trusted with something.
Don't mock his movies, Newt. They might have to tussle over that.
Okay, c'mon, Kurt. Even you'd have to giggle at that mishandling of that right there.
"Have you ever heard of Mystery Science Theater 3000?"
His hand idly moved to Kurt's tail to stroke it. It was there. His hands couldn't keep still. Sure, it was a little intimate but whatever. He'd already started touching - tracing along it.
"Ah..." Kurt was a little distracted, eyes half closed as he felt the little shivers skimming up through his spine from those simple touches. He'd never really had anyone else play with his tail before. He knew there were a few sensitive spots, but on the whole, someone stroking it like that... was... awfully nice. And distracting. And a little bit more than that, making him shift just a bit where he sat.
Newt leaned forward a little and caught That look in Kurt's eye. Oh.
OOOH.
He remembered something like this happening before! The first time they met. Now Newt wasn't going to stop. His finger traced all the way to the tip and then started grazing along the outside of the point.

Nope, sorry, Newt. He wasn't falling for that.

"Seriously?"
These were in black and white! Had he, personally, ever seen a black and white film past Psycho?
"What year did you say you were from?"
The last question is an honest one, not one to tease him.

And he could always distract himself during the movies. No big deal. Please, Kurt, enlighten him.
Oh my god. I'd replied to this and it didn't go through? I thought you'd stopped tagging. >|
nah not without saying something!
For the dates or for himself. But he thought about it for a second and realized there was a typical order for everyone.
"Usually the dinner comes first."
Good ♥

"Why do you like pirates?"

That was adventurous enough for most people. The cliche was for kids to run away to it to get some adventure right?
Newt watches the tail's owner then tail itself. It was going to be ages before he was bored with it.
